WHAT IS MYOFASCIAL FLUSHING?
THE RODRIGO METHOD EXPLAINED

By Rodrigo Martins — Elite Recovery Specialist, Rodrigo Method NYC

Rodrigo Method NYC sessions are performance-focused recovery, not medical treatment. This service does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for any injury, pain, or health concern.

What is fascia, and why does it matter for recovery?

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds, supports, and separates every muscle, tendon, and organ in your body. Think of it as the body's internal scaffolding — a continuous web that holds everything in place and transmits force across tissue layers.

After intense training, competition, or prolonged stress, fascia can become restricted — less pliable, more resistant to movement. This is often experienced as stiffness, tightness, or reduced range of motion. Myofascial work addresses these restrictions directly.

What is myofascial flushing?

Myofascial flushing is a hands-on recovery technique that targets the fascial layer around muscles. Unlike traditional massage, which focuses primarily on muscle tissue itself, myofascial flushing works through the connective tissue — using controlled, directional force to address the layer that surrounds and penetrates the muscle.

The Rodrigo Method applies this technique using a proprietary steel flushing stick. The instrument's 360°-axis design allows a specialist to apply precise, variable pressure along specific tissue pathways — adapting the direction, speed, and depth of each pass in real time.

The term "flushing" describes the directional nature of the technique: rather than compressing tissue in place (as static pressure does), the instrument moves along pathways with intent — working from distal to proximal in a systematic protocol.

How does the Rodrigo Method work?

Every session follows a structured five-step protocol:

  1. Intake — Targets, training load, and a map of where you're carrying tension.
  2. Warm-up — Prepare the tissue and nervous system for the work ahead.
  3. Flush — The main technique: directional, controlled work through the key areas.
  4. Reset — Range-of-motion check and breathing downshift.
  5. Takeaway — Simple protocol for the following 24 hours.

Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes and available in-home across Manhattan and Brooklyn, or at the Manhattan studio.

How is this different from a massage?

Traditional massage works primarily on muscle tissue through static pressure, effleurage, and petrissage techniques. Myofascial flushing uses a steel instrument moving along tissue pathways — a fundamentally different mechanical approach that works on a different tissue layer.

This is a description of technique and method, not a clinical equivalence or superiority claim. Massage has its own established applications. Myofascial flushing is a distinct practice.

How is this different from a foam roller?

Foam rolling is self-administered and relies on body weight for pressure. The depth and directionality are limited by the user's own control and position. The Rodrigo Method uses a specialist-operated instrument, allowing for:

  • Variable and precise pressure — adjusted by a trained specialist in real time
  • 360° directional movement — not constrained by rolling axis
  • Systematic pathway work — following anatomically meaningful tissue routes

How is this different from a massage gun?

Massage guns deliver percussive impact perpendicular to the tissue at preset depths. The Rodrigo Method uses a rolling instrument that moves along tissue pathways — not into them. The mechanical principle is different, and the intended application is different.

What do clients report feeling?

Individual experiences vary. Clients commonly report:

  • Reduced stiffness and tissue rigidity during the session
  • Improved range of motion immediately after the work
  • A sense of lightness in the worked areas
  • Reduced soreness in the following 24–48 hours compared to previous recovery patterns

These are client-reported experiences. No specific outcomes are guaranteed. Individual results depend on body condition, training history, and session type.

Is this a medical treatment?

No. Rodrigo Method sessions are performance-focused recovery services, not medical treatment. If you are managing an injury, have been advised to restrict activity, or experience pain that affects daily function, consult a qualified healthcare professional before booking.
