WHAT TO EXPECT
DURING YOUR
FIRST SESSION
By Rodrigo Martins — Elite Recovery Specialist, Rodrigo Method NYC
Rodrigo Method NYC sessions are performance-focused recovery, not medical treatment. This service does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for any injury, pain, or health concern.
First-time clients often arrive unsure of what to expect — especially if they have only experienced traditional massage or self-care tools like foam rollers. This guide walks through exactly what happens, step by step, so there are no surprises.
Sessions follow the same five-step structure every time, though the specifics of each step adapt to you.
01
INTAKE
5–10 min
Before the session begins, Rodrigo asks about your current training load, specific areas of concern, any recent injuries or pain, and your goals for the day. This is not a medical assessment — it is a practical briefing that shapes the protocol for this particular session.
TIP
Be specific about where you feel tight, heavy, or limited. The more information Rodrigo has, the more targeted the session can be.
02
WARM-UP
5–8 min
Light movement and positioning to prepare the tissue and nervous system for the work ahead. This is not a full warmup in the athletic sense — it is a brief transition that helps the body respond better to the flushing technique.
03
THE FLUSH
35–65 min
The main event. Rodrigo works systematically through the key areas identified in the intake, using the flushing stick along tissue pathways. The sensation is intense but controlled — most clients describe it as significant pressure that stays within a manageable range. Communicate throughout: if the pressure is too much or you need an adjustment, say so.
TIP
Breathe normally and try not to hold tension in areas that are not being worked. Rodrigo will guide your breath at key moments.
04
RESET
5–10 min
A range-of-motion check and breathing downshift at the end of the session. Rodrigo verifies how the key areas have responded and guides a brief de-activation to help the nervous system settle.
05
TAKEAWAY
3–5 min
Before you leave, Rodrigo gives you a simple protocol for the following 24 hours — hydration, movement guidance, and any specific observations from the session. This is practical and brief, not an elaborate home program.
TIP
Hydrate well after the session. Light movement in the following hours is generally preferable to complete rest.
Before you arrive
- Wear comfortable athletic wear or workout clothes. Avoid jeans or restrictive clothing.
- Avoid eating a large meal in the hour before your session.
- For in-home sessions, clear a floor space of approximately 6×8 feet. Rodrigo brings everything else.
- No need to warm up before the session — that is built into the protocol.
After the session
Hydrate well. Light movement in the hours following the session is generally better than complete rest. Rodrigo will give you specific guidance at the end.
Individual responses to the session vary. Some clients feel immediately lighter and more mobile. Others notice the effects more in the following 24 hours. Both are normal.
How often should you come back?
After a first session, Rodrigo can give you a clearer picture of what cadence makes sense for your body and goals. Monthly subscription plans (The Committed and The Elite) are designed for clients who train consistently and want structured, predictable recovery. Single sessions are available for specific events or as needed.
